To complete your Canadian Dental Care Plan application, you will need the following information for yourself and your spouse or common-law partner (if applicable):

  • Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • Date of Birth
  • Full Name
  • Home and Mailing Address
  • List of any dental coverage through government social programs (if applicable)
  • Proof of tax filing for 2024 (Notice of Assessment)

The CDCP approval process typically takes a few weeks to complete. Once you’ve applied, you’ll receive a confirmation letter by mail or through your CRA My Account with details about your eligibility and coverage start date.

Yes! Your whole family can apply for the CDCP as long as each member meets the eligibility criteria:

  • No access to private dental insurance (including through a job, pension, or family member’s plan)
  • Adjusted family net income below $90,000
  • Canadian resident for tax purposes and filed a tax return for the previous year

You would need to renew your coverage, but the renewal process is simpler than the first-time application. You don’t have to apply from scratch; your eligibility is mainly reassessed based on your most recent tax return and Notice of Assessment. If your income still qualifies (below the threshold) and you haven’t gained private dental coverage, your renewal is approved, and your CDCP card stays valid.
