Dental Crowns and Bridges in Mississauga

Sauga Smiles Dental provides dental crowns and bridges in Mississauga to protect damaged teeth and close gaps left by missing ones. A crown covers a tooth that is cracked, worn or heavily filled, and a bridge replaces a missing tooth by anchoring a false tooth to the teeth on either side. Treatment is usually completed over 2-3 visits, with a temporary placed in between so you are never left with an exposed tooth. Our clinic is on Burnhamthorpe Road West and is CDCP-approved.

What Are Dental Crowns and Bridges?

A dental crown is a custom-made cap that fits over a tooth, restoring its shape, strength and appearance. A dental bridge is a row of connected teeth: one or more artificial teeth held in place by crowns on the natural teeth next to the gap. Both are made to match the colour and shape of your surrounding teeth.

Who Needs a Crown or a Bridge?

You may need a crown if a tooth is cracked, worn down, has a large filling that is failing, or has had a root canal and needs protection. A bridge may be suggested when a tooth is missing and the neighbouring teeth are strong enough to support it. If you would prefer to replace the root as well, dental implants are the alternative to discuss with your dentist.

Benefits of Crowns and Bridges

  • Protect a weak or cracked tooth from breaking further
  • Restore chewing ability and a natural look
  • Close gaps so remaining teeth do not drift out of position
  • Cover a tooth after a root canal
  • Made to match the colour and shape of your own teeth

How the Crown and Bridge Process Works

  1. Examination and planning. The dentist checks the tooth and the surrounding gum and bone, and explains whether a crown or a bridge is the better fit.
  2. Tooth preparation and impression. The tooth is numbed and shaped to hold the crown, and an impression is taken so the lab can make a custom restoration.
  3. Temporary crown or bridge. A temporary is placed to protect the tooth while your permanent restoration is made.
  4. Final fitting. At your next visit the temporary is removed, and the final crown or bridge is checked for fit, bite and colour, then permanently placed.

Before Your Visit

  • Tell us about any pain, sensitivity or biting problems with the tooth.
  • Share your medical history and medications.
  • Bring insurance or CDCP details so the front desk can confirm coverage first.
  • Plan to be numbed. Avoid eating hot food until the numbness wears off.
  • If you feel anxious, ask about nitrous oxide when you book.

After Your Treatment

  • Your mouth may be numb for a few hours, so avoid chewing until it wears off.
  • Avoid very hard or sticky foods while wearing the temporary, which is not as strong as the permanent crown.
  • Mild sensitivity to hot and cold or sore gums for a few days is common.
  • Brush normally and floss carefully around the crown or under the bridge.
  • Call us if the temporary falls off, your bite feels high, or pain does not settle.

Cost, CDCP, Insurance and Financing

We do not publish a fixed price list because the plan depends on the tooth, the material and your coverage. We are a CDCP-approved provider and bill most major insurers directly. Where coverage is limited, 0% financing is available for patients who qualify. Call 905-277-1560 and the front desk will give you a personal cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Usually two to three visits, with a temporary crown in place between the preparation visit and the final fitting.

A crown covers a single tooth. A bridge replaces a missing tooth with a false tooth held in place by crowns on the neighbouring teeth.

Crowns and bridges are made to match the colour and shape of your surrounding teeth, so they blend in with your smile.

A crown is often recommended after a root canal, because the tooth can become brittle. Your dentist will advise based on how much healthy tooth remains.

Coverage depends on your plan and the treatment. We are a CDCP-approved provider and can check what applies to you.

Brush twice a day, floss daily (using a floss threader under a bridge) and keep up regular cleanings.
